With growing concerns about public health and the risk of the spread of communicable disease, including coronavirus, Oakland Council President Rebecca Kaplan is urging immediate action to provide sanitation, and hand-washing facilities in our communities. The Oakland City Council budget amendments, passed in June of 2019, added funding for public toilets with hand-washing stations, using a model based on the one designed by City of Portland, to be sturdy and require minimal maintenance and repair. This also helps with sanitation and public health, and reducing cleanup costs.
This was a tough election to swallow nationally. The good news is that locally we made progress on renter protections, police accountability, and keeping our kids healthy. Join me as we debrief on the election and discuss what we can continue to do to protect and strengthen Oakland. We will have a happy hour at Crossburgers in Frank Ogawa Plaza across from City Hall. Please buy your tickets here and help me pay off my final campaign bills and move into my next term with strength.
